The Unknownby Donald Rumsfeld
As we know,
There are known knowns.
There are things we know we know.
We also know
There are known unknowns.
That is to say
We know there are some things
We do not know.
But there are also unknown unknowns,
The ones we don't know
We don't know.

Hero?
by Mark R. Slaughter
Hail great hero!
Hero brave!
Praise you hero!
I your slave
Now duly fall
On giving knee
In hero worship
Unto thee!
Now did you hero save our globe
When draped in classic hero's robe?
And did it flow as reddened blood
As battles raged in fields of mud?
Oh hero tell me of your fame:
Were writhing serpents fair your game?
Did you pierce the dragon's heart
Intrepid hero; play the part
When Tyrant slain in hero's fight
On quaking ground thro' battle's might?
And did you hero conquer evil -
Waste the minions of the devil?
Oh valiant hero, does your amour
Gleam from ventures steeped in valour?
Your sword oh hero, sparks a glint
From charging steel to give the hint
Of what great chapters Hero's Tome
Might tell to us when heroes roam
Through lands of yore when goblins vile
Sought a chance to kill for bile.
Oh hail thy hero,
Hero tall!
Bless you hero,
As I fall
In blushing shame,
I speak to me...
This mirror aids to fantasise
That I be hero worldly wise,
But meek and mild is all I am:
Hero naught; unbridled scam.

GOD SPEAKS TO EACH OF US
by Rainer Maria Rilke
God speaks to each of us before we are,
Before he's formed us then, in cloudy speech,
But only then, he speaks these words to each
And silently walks with us from the dark:
Driven by your senses, dare
to the edge of longing. Grow
Like a fire's shadow casting glare
Behind assembled things, so you can spread
Their shapes on me as clothes
Don't leave me bare.
Let it all happen to you: beauty and dread.
Simply go no feeling is too much
And only this way can we stay in touch.
Near here is the land
That they call Life.
You'll know when you arrive
By how real it is.
Give me your hand.
WISDOM TREE
by Dr. Uma Asopa
A little grain of earth,
some moist air is all it needs.
The Pipal grows on wall,
between rocks, on barren reefs.
Many green hearts it beans
on its body that have veins
woven like honeycombs;
but they do not beat.
Summer scalds them yellow,
winds flutter them enough,
but the leaves remain alive
for weeks.
Some women offer prayers
to the tree, pour a little water,
or tie on it a sacred thread.
The tree blesses them with a long life.
They would prosper.
An age-old Asian wisdom will further.
Some trees will be felled
as others will be worshiped.

MEMO: to all employees
RE: toxic levels of oversimplification in the media
it has come to our attention
here in the boardroom
that people are getting
dumber
and it is a direct
result of our
polluting their already
fragile imaginary ecosystems,
our systematic dilution of
their unstable brains
with vapid and dull images on the
screen, with dialogue fit only for
remedial writing classes,
with murders, rapes, and failures
sprinkled with weather and sports,
with
imformation masquerading as
information pretending to be
news acting like
entertainment.
keep up
the good
work.
In my Car By Darren Rieck
Sitting in my car, not going far
There's a site, guy on a bike
Looks like fun, riding in the sun
No stops at all, while I sit in a crawl
This traffic…it makes me sick!
My trips getting longer & he's getting stronger
Moving so free… that could be me!
Oh, nice thought, this car…I just bought
What if I need to go to the mall or take a call?
What about sweat, surely then I'll regret
And another thing, what clothes would I bring?
With so much else to do, my life is just a zoo
Living this way, this is the price I pay
Sitting in my car, not going far

To Whom It May Concern:
(I hope this won't be returned)
We have known each other for thousands of years.
Now I come to you eyes filled with tears
Stinging from colors you put in my sky
Clogging my lungs as they come to lie.
Causing temperature changes, first cold then hot
by clear-cutting my trees; where's the next spot?
This is getting me dizzy, now I'm starting to feel faint,
Drinking from rivers & lakes, with chemicals you did taint.
For so many years I thought we got along.
What happened? What did I do wrong?
Please, Please get this on time
Your precious resources are my vital signs

Cynicism comes from self-disgustBy William Byrd
Cynicism comes from self-disgust,
Yearning for a world one has surrendered.
No vision is complete but in repose,
Implicit in the steady gaze within.
Come, then, to know that good and evil must
In everyone with due respect be rendered,
So delicate their dance, as much in those
Not cynical as in those steeped in sin.

The Earth Is All That Will RemainBy Darren Rieck
Wind, Snow, Heat & Rain, The Earth Is All That Will Remain
So let your journey be Rich with Life until the end
By leaving trails like extensions of a hand to lend.
For others to grasp, reaching to pull them through
Doing to others only as you would've done to you.
Each day moving you closer to better health
Unveiling with every step that this is truly wealth.
Being able to see and do more than ever before
As you walk, bike or scoot when exiting by door.
All Natural, Fresh and Pure guide the items you select
Farm raised and produced with no chemicals to detect.
And after your deeds are done, the Earth is what stays the same
Being able to be Proud as you pass it along is what you gain.
